Newcastle United have already said they want to finalise a deal on Andros Townsend, now they intend to offer Chancel Mbemba as a sweetener.
Out of favour and a possible Premier League return
The 25-year-old Leytonstone born midfielder joined with Newcastle for a reported £12 million pound fee. He scored 4 goals in 13 appearances for the club but it wasn’t enough to halt Newcastle’s decline into relegation.
Meanwhile Townsend, who joined Crystal Palace after they met a £13 million release clause amount in his contract, could be set for a Premier League return. Rafa Benitez certainly seems keen on bringing Townsend back to the top flight.
A tough deal to make
However, getting a deal in place with Crystal Palace has proved to be tough. They don’t want to loose a player unless a permanent transfer deal is arranged. Now that Crystal Palace are also battling a relegation battle, Newcastle may feel they have bargaining power to offer a swap.
Mbemba has clocked up just 8 appearances for Newcastle this season and has not played since November.
