Sadiq Khan has uncovered his main goals for Policing over the next year, with hate crime and terrorism being major targets.
He’s also looking at supporting victims and boosting the city’s anti terror armed unit.
On the mayor’s agenda for the year is increasing the number of specialist armed officers on the beat in the capital. The reports states that: “We have agreed an increase in armed officers for London to ensure that the MPS can respond quickly and decisively should the need arise.”
The Mayor has also said he will set up an online resource to help support victims of web based hate crime. The four year strategy also placed emphasis on child protection and younger people. This specific mention of young people comes after a turbulent time when it’s been reported that knife crime has hit an all time high, something that affects young people hugely.
Sadiq Khan said: “As we deliver this strategy over the coming years, I will continue to fight tooth and nail to protect our vital police services and make sure they have the funding they need to keep us safe now and in the future.”
