Amberley Court, Sidcup, child and four adults evacuated from home after gas explosion

A young child and four adults were evacuated from their home after a suspected gas explosion in South London.

Firefighters were first called to Amberley Court just before 10.45am after reports of a strong smell of gas. They discovered what appeared to be a gas explosion and feared structural damage to the maisonette closest to the blast site.

One man managed to escape the property before the fire service arrived.


The fire service managed to evacuate five people in total, one child and four adults from the home.

Four fire service vehicles attended from Sidcup, Eltham, Orpington and Bexley fire stations.

The cause of the explosion is currently being investigated.
